28 Days Crave Veggies (day 12)Time for a Food Change
For the next month I will be turning to a vegetarian diet to eat to help myself become a healthier and feel better me. I’ve been feeling sluggish lately and think this is just the boost my body needs, plus I was concerned that too many of my meals revolved around meat – was it really necessary? This will be a new food experience that I’d like to take myself on to discover satisfying (new) meals packed with vegetables, whole grains and more. I’m kicking the ‘habit’ of eating meat and giving the veggies a chance to take centre stage for a whole month!

Breakfast
Toasted crumpets with blackcurrant conserve. A lovely piece of crumpet in the morning sets me up for the day. Yum!

Lunch
For lunch,
I stumbled down Berwick Street looking for lunch ideas, and one of my favourite weekday lunch options is The Breadman stall in Berwick Street Markets. With bagels hot out of the oven from Brick Lane; get them plain, with meat-free fillings, hot salt beef and mustard, chorizo and other delicious fillings – you’ll be spoilt for choice. You’ll also find tasty Portuguese tarts, cakes and fresh breads, and don’t even think about stopping at one! The doughnuts bursting with raspberry jam, apple or custard are also delicious – at just £1.00 each!! Great prices all round. Berwick Street Markets, Soho – a must visit for a cheap lunch stop.

Dinner – Vegetarian Friendly Japanese Food
Being on a vegetarian diet would going out for Japanese food prove difficult? with some effort and pre-planning the experience can also be very rewarding. This was my FIRST experience eating out for Japanese food on a vegetarian diet: delicious chunky Tofu Donburi in teriyaki sauce (with beansprouts), avocado hand roll & veggie gyozas (and light soy dipping sauce), enjoyed at one of my favourite Japanese restaurants, Taro.

A change in diet doesn’t have to change your lifestyle. It’s not so much about the label ‘vegetarian’ as it is about challenging myself to be more conscious of what I eat and how it impacts me physically. I’ll keep you updated daily on this blog and twitter on what I’m eating and how I’m progressing by adopting a meat-free diet. Bring on Day 13 – thanks for reading :) – Cindz
