(Day 2 of 7) Continuing my National Cake Week discoveries. Today I asked people to share with me their favourite gluten-free cakes in central London. I’m not coeliac but there are so many people who are and I thought it would be interesting to discover gluten-free (GF) cakeries. I actually found it hard(er) than I thought finding GF treats. Thank goodness there was Flatplanet – where lots of the cakes are gluten free – including the Best Brownies, the raspberry and oat breakfast bar (which is also sugar and fat-free but tastes moreish and beautiful). They make a fuss of their fairtrade, rainforest-alliance certified and organic coffee and flat whites too.

Located close to Oxford Street and Carnaby Street, Flatplanet is a great place to hang out for breakfast/lunch. The flat breads are fresh and recommend trying the ‘Moroccan chicken’ – houmous, sour cream and tabouleh – or spicy cured sausage with rocket and parmesan shavings (‘El Diablo’) flat bread. You won’t be disappointed. Great service staff who are warm and friendly.

In addition, I asked on twitter for follower’s suggestions for gluten-free places for cakes in central London. Here were some of the comments:

  • Free State Coffee “We always have an offer of gluten and dairy free cake. Mandarin and Chocolate Loaf at the moment.Delish! We’re also working with our need food artisan for more vegan and gluten free options, so watch this space!”
  • Sugar free Me ‏”Humming Bird Bakery do gluten-free cakes. Konditor and Cook do an amazing st Clements gluten free cake.”
  • Leon Restaurants “We still do better brownies absolutely everywhere, Cindy, never fear.”

I’m glad I used National Cake Week to find gluten-free cakes today. Hopefully raised awareness of coeliac disease.
