Christmas begins at PJ taste

24 November 2011

A Taste of Christmas with PJ taste, 24th November 2011

A Taste of Christmas hosted by Sheffield’s PJ taste, an event taking place this evening at PJ taste on Glossop Road to celebrate the best in Christmas food, drink and entertaining of local food possibilities both direct from the land and crafted by a range of Sheffield food producers. Places were limited for tonight’s event and were available in exchange for a donation of £5 to PJ taste’s nominated charity, Sheffield’s Cavendish Cancer Care.

With informative food demonstrations including Peter from PJ taste will feature ingredients from local producers as well as some seasonally foraged goodies to make some stress free Christmas inspired dishes – food demonstrations involving creating a cured salmon dish (a tasty ideal for Christmas Day) and how to prepare the Turkey, with a talk about slow cooked Beef Stew – with a Rivelin beef vs leading supermarket beef off!! (oooooh, will we able to taste the difference!? – it will be interesting to find out). There will also be a fascinating insight into making traditional hand raised pork pies by John Lord, who I’ve been told has over 50 years experience with pies starting as an apprentice in Pudsey (I dread to think how many pies he’s scoffed in his lifetime so far!? – jealous!). You can have a sneaky peep of the PJ taste events program here.

Missie Cindz ‘Sheffield Favourites’ hampers
Alongside all this, I will be unveiling my Christmas Edition ‘Sheffield Favourites’ food hamper (a limited number available) – I’ve been given the time slot of 8.05pm to do my tasty talk – looks like Peter has give me 5 mins for my presentation (am going to find it difficult skimming all I have to say about these bounty hampers in just five Peter! :). I will let you know how the idea came about and why my box of treats provides a good ‘sample taste’ of the wealth of food goodness we have in the City. The Missie Cindz ‘Sheffield Favourites’ hamper is presented in an imaginative manner and in the Missie C’s whimsical signature with, of course, the aim to give pleasure to the hamper recipient’s taste buds.

As a true Sheffielder, I am very proud of the produce that this City has to offer – I’ve had a really educational food-related year. 2011 has seen me liaising with lots of artisan food producers, interesting food bloggers who have all encouraged me to broaden my food palette (as well as food vocabulary too – “green olive tapenade”, “pickled ransoms buds” and finding out about ‘pectin’ used for jam making during the time I worked closely with PJ taste to curate my Missie Cindz’ Vintage Preserves‘). Sheffield has food producers abound who have developed very innovative ways of taking core ingredients such as bees, milk, pork and the right weather and making them into something individual.

With the festive season almost here, it’s time to think about treating family, friends and colleagues to delicious and gorgeous looking presents. Make your Christmas gifts extra special this year and buy something delicious from your OWN city with a Missie Cindz ‘Sheffield Favourites’ food hamper.

Hampers can be purchased from all PJ taste stockists, and we are be able to deliver to an address of your choice (a small P&P fee will incur) or to reserve your box today (I’d hate you to miss out) – just download the order form here, fill this in and hand this to PJ taste as soon as you can or alternatively give them a call on 0114 2755 971.
