Yay, finally I have my own Spork – Spoon, Fork, Knife in one!

missie C spork 2 I love Sporks

Let's get sporking! - colourful eating gadgets worth carrying

I’ve waited so for one of these in ages!! – a spoon, fork and knife all in one. Hello me SPORK!

Look what I bought the other day whilst shopping in London’s Spitalfields Market, the mighty ‘Spork’! These are so much better than those fast-food sporks you get given (at least you know these won’t snap!) and you’ve got to agreee, they look so much better too. The Spork is a knife, spoon and fork combined in a single, one-piece utensil. Designed by Scandinavian designer Joachim Nordwall. Available in a range of colours to co-ordinate nicely with your choice of veggies.

More info can be found at: www.lightmyfire.com or if you can’t nip down to the market’s to pick up a colourful spork, they’re also available from Amazon, UK.

So, let’s get sporking!

Missie’s Visual Diary – how busy and manic has this week been?

On Monday, I decided to take a break from my usual food snapping – yes, I never thought I’d get to say that either, and met up with Mark Howe for a fantastic photo shoot. Forget purple, today was when I got peachy! Say hello to Mark. Mark is a Photographer and Creative Designer who always has simple and smart ideas. His work makes me smile and say “Of course!”. He likes to play with light and shadows, and to experiment with interesting ways of telling ‘tasteful’ stories. Read my full experience of the day here.

Check out Jane Faram’s blog post on Sheffield’s @PJtaste‘s new illustrative frieze. Jane (@FaramAuFait) was commissioned to work alongside We are Click to produce a frieze for the wall of the Canteen. The work combines a map of Sheffield and their key producers with a menu board of sorts, to narrate the process from planting to devouring! (it’s all very interesting). You really have to see it for yourself and snoop around in their ‘library’ corner (nice stools too), you probably can’t miss it actually…I hadn’t been in the canteen for a week and it was ALL CHANGE! :) – I was glad to see the staff (Melanie) was still the same though!

Next weekend, I’m looking forward to the Sheffield Bradfield Farmers Markets (19th March, from 11am) – where over 20 Sheffield food stalls will be there, showing off to us their delightful treats and full flavoured goodness. So for Gerty’s Pork, Sheffield Honey, Our Cow Molly ice cream and milk, Tea Box and many more, make sure you’re there.

No doubt Missie will also continue leaving her paper cutout trails around Sheffield too. This week she was up at Heeley City Farm, helping Lisa with the postcards – take a look :) If you’ve spotted her, tweet me a photo – she’s always gallivanting up and down the City sniffing food and leaving crumb! #missiesfoodadventures

Healthy Grazing, with Graze.com

15 Dec

500x200 graze.com Healthy Grazing, with Graze.com

Get a free box from www.graze.com with this code: RJCGHHXT – healthy snacks delivered to your desk”¦delicious and lovely :)

A few months ago I found a fantastic company called graze who send great and healthy snacks in boxes through the post. I’ve stumbled across them a while ago but have only just tried them out. They offer some great choices for a great price (or free if it’s your first purchase), these boxes are awesome because you can have sent anywhere. You can get them sent to work if you”™re an office, at home or send them to a friend who you reckon is a grazer. These are perfect because I (and I”™m sure lots of you are guilty of it) snack, I can find myself reaching for chocolates, cereal bars or biccies to accompany a freshly made brew. Some colleagues seem to take loads of yummy foods into offices – I’m not saying my snack foodies are all unhealthy because alot of the times they do include a banana or apple! :)

From their Grazing boxes, you can try things you never thought you would for £2.99 inc postage and package, you get a good balance of things. You can have olives (I didn’t used to like these fellas but I do now), and I realise olives aren”™t so good for you but it”™s part of a balanced diet so indulge a little. You can have nuts, dried fruits, flapjack, rice crackers and tasty focaccias. It”™s endless. I like the fact that you also get quite a lot of your ‘chosen graze product’ in each individual punnet. I like the packaging too, very stylish and everything they use is recycled.

Oh finally I loved the graze reindeer I got too along with my usual fruit and nut snacks. Made me feel a little extra more jolly! :)

Genesis Crafty Treats

29 Nov

500x200 genesiscrafty Genesis Crafty Treats

Just who isn’t fond of the bakery section in Supermarkets?

I went to the Good Food Show at the NEC yesterday and to my delight I was swamped with a number of edible treats, samples of delicious liquors and mouldy type cheeses (I really did end up feeling like the size of a house by the end of the event) – but to my delight, one brand caught my eyes the most, this was ‘Genesis Crafty‘ – not only were their stall eye catching by their hand-drawn like illustrations (doodles) on their walls, running through into packaging and print materials but their customer service was top notch too! Thank you Mel :)

Their marketing campaign oozes with charm and personality. It’s the naïve visual appeal that makes it so special in the first place – showing that the Six Brothers Six Bakers are each personal, engaging and unique (watch their ‘Making of’ Movie – it kinda made me smile and I love the Baker who flips the pancake! hahaha – I had to watch this again!). Their design principles put in place work across the entire range to provide the required consistency but also allows for individual interpretation as they add more products to the range. Strong packaging taste (simple use of colours; good looking, personal & chunky choice of fonts blended with child-like illustrations – just won me over!), with great pricing strategies and you can really tell they’ve thought about their marketing communications – which I’m sure is still being further developed too.

Their extensive range of scones, rolls, sodas, potato bread, wheaten, and pancakes, based on traditional recipes and organic, natural ingredients were utterly scrummy – a plateful of buttered cherry scones offered to me, they were so smooth and rich in flavour – a proper melt in the mouth moment. Try their Double Butter & Sultana Scones (4) available from Tesco/Waitrose/Sainsbury’s, you won’t be disappointed. Let me know what you think too.
