Happy Hour PudInn Club

9 May

missie cindz happy hour pudinn 2 Happy Hour PudInn Club

You are invited to attend Missie Cindz’s seasonal Pud Inn Club on Saturday 22nd June held in The Rutland Arms (upstairs) starting 2.00pm – 4.30pm with a ‘Happy Hour’ {booze} pudding themed menu.

Dessert doesn’t have to mean straightforward cakes, pies or puddings. We will be adding a splash (or two) of liqueur or wine to kick your favorite treat up a notch ~ join me for a sweet afternoon to enjoy a delicious 5 course of treats with spirits made by local Sheffield bakers, pubs, restaurants and Pud Inn diners.

The pudding possibilities are endless; some are more familiar, think of the boozy Italian Tiramisu, Chocolate Guinness Cake and the classic Sherry Trifle – this is not the menu by the way, and you’ll just have to wait until the day to find out what’s on your 5 course puds menu.

About Missie’s Pud Inn
Pud Inn’s GREAT! Support your local pub, local bakers, local talent AND brighten the community! What’s not to love!?  It is a friendly and informal afternoon with other pudding enthusiasts from Sheffield and beyond – if you want to come alone and make new friends, that’s fine too. Yes, Pud Inn is rather naughty and it’s unhealthy but I think everyone is allowed a guilty pleasure once in a while – after all – “what’s life without treats!?”.

During the afternoon you have a chance to see familiar faces, give and build a great Sheffield community – something that I believe we should be doing on a daily basis. Even if you don’t know the food producers or bakers involved and don’t know what to expect; it all adds to the Pud Inn experience.

If you missed our last ‘Around the World’ PudInn event you can read about what we got up to right here!

Finally…
If you would like to put your name on our waiting list or to express your interest in future events then please join our mailing list to be kept up to date with my tasteful food adventure or alternatively follow me on twitter and facebook.

Wow, after this write-up I need something sweet! ~ see you all in June ~ Missie Cindz :)

Fill yourself up on local goodness from ‘Around the World’

To those who know me well and the way I like to will already be familiar of my Missie’s Pud Inn Clubs (aka hashtag on twitter: #MissiesPudInn). These are events I cook up to share with you the things I enjoy; puddings, building community and Sheffield. I can finally reveal the five puddings we’ll be serving to our lucky diners attending our PudInn Club TODAY. A massive thank you to all our talented and generous local Chefs, restaurants and bakers who all have been busy cooking up a world-themed pudding course menu.

Today’s menu will feature a trip to East Asia starting with one of my most favourite Cantonese desserts which I’d like diners to try (PudInn’s all about trying something new too :) with a smooth red bean dessert, then we’ll take a trip to Taiwan with LOL Bubble Tea, following a travel over to Russia with Cossack Cuisine, after a break (stopover) we will continue making our way to Yorkshire, United Kingdom greeted with Silversmith’s Creative Head Chef Lee Simon Mangles array of delights, ending with a final destination to Pakistan with Rutland Arms Chef Koko’s special homemade dessert (Rutland Arms Chef Mike will still be joining us for PudInn club and helping Koko to serve her course).

  • Course One: Red Bean Dessert – a popular Chinese sweet dessert soup made with red azuki beans. Made by myself (twitter: @MissieCindz)
  • Course Two: Taiwanese Mango Pudding made by LOL Bubble Tea, West One Plaza (twitter: @LOL_BubbleTea)
  • Course Three: Russian Fruit Celebration Gateaux – a fresh fruit celebration cake with fresh fruit mousse, white sponge,
laced with liqueur, covered in a fresh cream meringue made by Cossack Cuisine (twitter: @CossackCuisine)
  • Course Four: Flavours of Yorkshire Rhubarb on a World Tour made by Silversmith’s Creative Chef, Lee Simon Mangles (twitter: @LeeSimonMangles / @Silversmiths)
  • Course Five: Gulab Jamun (popular Pakistan dessert) with Cardamom Ice Cream and Mango Coulis made by Rutland Arms Chef Koko (twitter: @sweetKomal / @RutlandArmsChef)

Be a sweet social buddy
Look out for our pudding pictures and live updates later in the afternoon – we also encourage diners to do lots of LIVE tweeting using the hashtag #MissiesPudInn and to share your photos online, I’ll be super busy dishing up courses so it would be great to check out your photos afterwards :) Make all your friends super jealous and want you to take them to the next Pud Inn Club!

Pudding competition
There will be also a Twitter Pud Inn Competition with the Rutland Arms for today’s event.
Tweet and share your love for puddings using the twitter hashtag #MissiesPudInn for a chance to WIN a complimentary hearty meal and drink at the Rutland Arms. The most enthusiastic Pud Inn tweeter will be chosen on Sunday and provided a good feeding as a thank you for their support.

Finally, thanks a bunch to all our Pud Inn participants for their desserts today and all the lovely online messages about Pud Inn Club from people who support what I love doing. PudInn’s going to rule! – a great way to brighten community and meet new people. I had no idea this would sell out so fast, and we are at max capacity! Thank you for the support.

A note to diners: do feel feel to bring tupperware as we don’t like to see delicious homemade goodness going to waist. Do make sure you try everything but if you do feel the waistband going, do stop and take some home for later.

See you at or just before 2pm today. Get yourself a drink at the bar then make your way upstairs! Thank you in advance for not being late – Missie Cindz :)

DIY Xmas – Salted Caramel Choc Shots

16 Dec

DIY xmas salted caramel shots DIY Xmas – Salted Caramel Choc Shots

Salted caramel chocolate shots – perfect for entertaining party guests!

Sweet party Ideas just for you

Forget sweet and sour, I love combining sweet and salty flavours together especially when chocolate, toffee and salt is involved. I first made these cute party-styled shots at Missie’s Party-themed Pud Inn back in September – you can read the blog post here from fellow food blogger @PinkLittleBean. These are best served in individual portions and the presentation of these are bound to impress your friends!

Serve them with a grissini/bread stick and you’ll be reminded of those retro KP Nuts chocolate dip pots back from your school day’s tuck shop – and that’s always a good memory! I always couldn’t decide whether I was more in love with the biscuit sticks, or the creamy chocolate dip I dunked them in :)

Find the recipe below for you to make at home for that all-impressive Christmas party sweet snack – and make sure you do the sprinkles round the edge look, it’s worth the time, the end result is bound to make your friends smile!

Ingredients / makes 20-25 shots glasses

  • 1 can of Carnation Caramel
  • 1 tsp sea salt, plus extra to serve
  • 300g luxury milk chocolate, broken into squares
  • 75g hundred and thousand sugar strands
  • 300ml double cream, at room temperature
  • 50ml milk
  • bread sticks to serve
  1. Melt 300g milk chocolate in a glass bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water. Dip the rim of a shot glass into the melted chocolate (not too much just enough to wet the rim) and then dip into the coloured sugar strands. Repeat until about 20 shot glasses have colourful looking rims.
  2. Mix the caramel with the salt. Mix really well. Divide between 20-25 small glasses and chill (I placed a generous teaspoon into each glass).
  3. Stir the double cream and milk into the remaining melted chocolate until smooth – if the chocolate’s gone thick, turn the heat back up and make sure the chocolate is nice and smooth before mixing with the cream, then scrape into a jug.
  4. Slowly pour on top of the caramel, around the edges first. Chill the pudding shots for at least 2 hrs.
  5. To serve, scatter a little more sea salt on top of each glass, then give each guest/diner a grissini/bread stick to dip into their delicious salted caramel shots …a shot of sweet happiness that’s bound to make them swoon! Enjoy :)

Missie Cindz Choccy Summer Pud Inn Menu for Saturday 23rd June 2012

Sweet-toothed Sheffielders are in for several treats TODAY at the Rutland Arms

We can finally reveal the five puddings we’ll be serving to the lucky diners at #MissiesPudInn (2pm – 4.30pm) TODAY. You can download our Chocolate Pud Inn Menu here for your reference and safe-keeps. Look out for our pudding pictures and live updates later in the afternoon – we also encourage diners to do lots of LIVE tweetings and to share tasty pudding photos online – make all your friends super jealous and want you to take them to our next Inning! :)

What’s for pudding at Missie Cindz Pud Inn?

  • Course One: first up at Pud Inn will be the Rutland Arms Chef Mike’s with a Choctastic Tart with Macadamia Nuts served with Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Chef Mike’s puddings have been our diner’s favourite for the past two times (source: from our diner’s score and feedback sheets) – but can Chef Mike make it a trio and win the spoons of diners for the third time in a row!?…it’s going to be tough competition…we’ll see…
  • Course Two: Sparkly Triple Belgium Chocolate Brownie topped with Milk, Dark and White Chocolate served with Seasonal British Raspberries made by Sheffield’s #Brownies
  • Course Three: White Chocolate Mousse Cupcakes made by Hannah Hemmings (T: @memhem) and Leah Griffiths (T: @griffindale) on behalf of The Broadfield Pub, Abbeydale Road (T: @theBroadfield)
  • Course Four: Chocolate Millionaire Pie served with cream made by enthusiastic baker, Charlotte Turner
  • Course Five: Finally, we’ll be ending the event with a Rhubarb and Chocolate Mousse served with PJ taste ‘Surprises’! (I’m intrigued to know what these surprises are too) made by Sheffield’s localvore champion, Peter Moulam of PJ taste

Have you also read our Twitter Pud Inn Competition with the Rutland Arms for today? For details, see this blog post: Plates of Happiness at The Inn and you could WIN a FREE lunch and drink at their pub for your sweet tweets!

So what is Missie’s Pud Inn Club?
For those who aren’t sure what our seasonal sugar fests are about, well, Pud Inn serves up diners a five-course pudding set menu, with a different pud theme for each event. Today’s theme is ‘Chocolate’ – previous themes have included, Favourites, Christmas and Fruity. Our clubs are seasonal events curated to bring back the wholesome ‘Pudding/dessert’. Yes, Pud Inn is naughty and it’s unhealthy but I think everyone is allowed a guilty pleasure once in a while…don’t you?

At our Inn, there’s no need for diners to feel guilty for stuffing themselves for Pud Inn has a trio of worthy positive aims by doing so: to support local talented makers, bakers and chefs; to encourage community friendships and contact among people who might not come together if not for their love of, say, a bowl of bread and butter pud; and to reconnect us with our roots by reintroducing eaters to traditional desserts like sticky toffee pudding and a homemade fruit trifle.

The talented Rutland Arm’s Chef Mike (Pudding 1), Hannah and Leah from The Broadfield (pudding 3) and enthusiastic baker, Charlotte Turner (pudding 4) will all be joining us today for puddings. So diners? if you spot them whilst scoffing their pudding be sure to say a big thank you and let them know what you think of their course. PJ taste and #Brownies won’t be able to join us due to work commitments but that doesn’t mean they’re not super gutted and won’t be catching up on live updates via Twitter or Facebook – be sure to let them all know what you think.

A personal big thank you to all our pudding makers for today’s treats – without their generous help, time and effort today’s Pud Inn wouldn’t be possible. We have all made a contribution to Pud Inn in our own time for the love of a good British pudding and bringing community (people) together – now, who said community spirit was dead!?

How to book a spoon at our next Pud Inn at the Rutland Arms
There are only 20 – 25 places available at Pud Inn, so to attend you must always book and purchase tickets early. Tickets can be purchased from the Rutland Arms bar, the event venue (Brown Street, Sheffield) or send Cindy Cheung, the event organiser an email to: puddingclub@missiecindz.com (tickets are £8 per person for five tasty local puds). I’m sorry to those who weren’t able to purchase tickets for today’s event and wanted to join us, but I will be planning our next event very soon and hope you will be able to join me for that?

Have a lovely sweet weekend everyone! – Missie / Cindz

Happy Sweet Weekend

25 May

Missie cindz showcomotion 2012 1 Happy Sweet Weekend

Sweet treats at the opening night of Sheffield's Showcomotion!

It was the Showcomotion’s Young People’s Film Festival opening night this evening. The Festival takes place in Sheffield’s Showroom Cinema between Friday 25 May – Sunday 3 June with a terrific lineup of film screenings for young people, schools and families. A big thank you to The Showroom for inviting me to your event. It was great to meet new people and to put faces to all those tweets.

Missie cindz showcomotion 2012 2 Happy Sweet Weekend

My eyes were caught on something...amazing looking Croque en Bouches.

Sweet treats for all…
During the launch we were provided an array of delicious home-made sweets, desserts and soft drinks. Anyone who had a sweet tooth would’ve thought it was their birthday party! Just look at the photos above of their amazingly well presented ‘Croque en Bouches’  (thanks PJ taste for the correct name) – a traditional french dessert. The name comes from the french words meaning ‘crunch in the mouth’ – usually served with profiteroles but the Showroom’s version was piled up high with meringues and beautifully hand decorated amoretti biscuits. I was in utter ‘Awwwwe’ and ‘WOW’ all at the same time! It was definitely a sweet start to my weekend…

The white chocolate fountains were also lovely touches. Fresh strawberries provided our 5 A Day and the tray loads of homemade meringues (loved the chewy centre), along with good old fashioned cinema popcorn, cubed fruit jellies and amoretti biscuits all provided nice textures and crunch which complemented well with the melted chocolate. Their head-chef, Simon Ayres is certainly one talented chef! – I’m going to be eyeing up more of his savoury and sweet offerings from now on.

Showcomotion 2012 featuring the COOLEST cat around! Showing at the Showroom Cinema, Sheffield

The Young People’s Film Festival 2012
I was told that the ethos of the festival is to give young people the opportunity to see films they would not otherwise get to see, to inspire a new generation of filmmakers, but above all to create a fun and friendly festival. I find it all great what these guys do – educating young people and teasing their creativity subliminally through film and animation! I remember, when I was a kid I watched so much TV and cartoons after school (it was probably the only time when I sat still). Cartoon and animated films are definitely one of the main influences that encouraged me me to delve into a career of design and illustration. It’s a fact.

When I used to work for a design agency located in The Workstation (next door to the Showroom Cinema), there would always be a lot of vibrant and colour oozing from the film festival, capturing the attention of young children and releasing the Kiddiness in the adult (after all, do we really want to grow up!? :). The film festival brings in hundreds of children to the Showroom watching a truly unique array of films. I picked up one of their film programme guides and I can see films from documentaries ranging from about lion cubs, cheetah and lion (African Cats); to Kevin Clash, the creator of Sesame Street’s Elmo, documenting and providing behind the scenes footage in the film Being Elmo. Plus, there are also film classics such as Oliver Twist and a showing of the long awaited return of Top Cat and Dr Suess’ The Lorax!

Best of all, film tickets for under 18’s are £2! And only £3 for adults…so, who’s joining me for Top Cats!?

You can find out more details of this year’s film programme here or on their festival website www.showcomotion.org.uk. Plus if you’re a Twitterholic like me, you could follow @showcomotion for all the latest tweetful film offerings. Enjoy!
