Day One: Gails Bakery (London)

Celebrating National Cake Week at Gail's Bakery, SohoCelebrating National Cake Week at Gail's Bakery, SohoFor National Cake Week I’ve taken a leaf out of my notebook, page 192 and will be treating myself to an array of delicious cakes and baked delights from some of London’s finest and interesting bakeries located near the design studio (W1 area). Often, with so many things going on and work commitments, it’s easy to forget to take time out and to discover local treats closer to home!

For day one I popped over to Gail’s Bakery, Soho for a well deserved cake stop after the office. Gail’s Artisan Bakery is a small London bakery chain with shops across the city. The shop is not very big, but it is quaint and light. I found the waitress who served me very friendly and smiley (makes a big difference), and although it was 8pm when I popped in, there were still a good choice of savoury snacks, cakes and other food on offer. I had the Pecan Crumble cake, definitely a cake for cinnamon lovers (which I am). Spicy, sweet and full of texture, with a thick layer of buttery crumble on top, lovely and moist sponge too – but the only thing missing perhaps was a jug of custard? :)

What is your favourite cake – and are you a layered cake or muffin/cupcake kinda person?
