Our Sheffield City in Print

I was thrilled earlier this month to be commissioned by Sheffield’s Sync City Magazine to concept and design their exciting FIRST issue. I have always wanted to put together a deliciously looking and useful publication for Sheffield. Sync City is a magazine-cum-city guide for anyone who wants to know more about Sheffield – whether you are a local or new to the city, whether you’re here as a student or here on business, Sync City aims to inform, inspire and engage. It’s a kinda “Happy Mag for Kidults”.

From the very beginning, I thought I would shed some light on some of the design details and thought processes behind the creation of Sync City Magazine, and if you have been following me on twitter, you will have seen me going through my creation and development process of Sync City’s first issue.

Hopefully you’ll find these design posts and the insight interesting, especially for new design students who are new to the print industry. You’ll find the ‘Process of creating a magazine’ over on my Cindy Cheung design blog here. Magazine design – it’s more than just layouts!

The magazine will be available to pick up from Friday 1st February from the Tourist Information Centre, hotels, restaurants and Cafes, and a full list will of places will be on their website soon. Sync City also aim to give coverage to unknown talent and Sheffield businesses that are hungry to impress. If you’re a writer, photographer, artist or service/charity and show an interest in getting involved in their next issue, email the editor and get in touch: editor@synccitymagazine.com

Finally, I hope you enjoy reading the our city’s latest magazine and that I’ve captured the ethos of the publication in the design and branding – do let me know what you think.

To find out more about Sync City Magazine, check out their website and pick up an issue or two at the Tourist Information Centre (Tudor Square). HOORAY!
