Missie Cindz Sheffield Food Adventures in photos! - how many Sheffield food items do you recognise?

It’s crazy to look back at old pictures and realise how much food discovering I’ve covered; sharing my food photos along the way has played an important part in my food adventures. I wanted to take my followers on a food trip down memory lane. For some of you who have followed me right from the start, will recognise some of the photos above – how many Sheffield food brands do you recognise here?

I’m a REAL-LIFE example of how blogging is a passport to lots of amazing new things. I started Missie Cindz at the end of 2010 after finally feeling the need to share my food experiences with everyone, whether I knew them or not. Blogging wasn’t something I knew much about and it wasn’t until one of my explorations at a Sheffield’s Farmer’s Market in Nether Edge, where I discovered a connection with food and my local community. I’d never been to a Farmers’ market until then and from the visit I was really moved and wrapped up in the variety of artisan food on display – I realised Sheffield had so many talented producers, chefs, hard working farmers and restauranteurs! – I hadn’t heard of them until then, and that’s when I thought others should know about these people too – and that’s how this colourful blog of mine’s come about.

Ever since then I have taken over 3000 photos of my food discoveries! – sharing them on Missie Cindz’s Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, twitter and this blog.

I’m not a professional writer (I got a B in GCSE English and I was really chuffed with that!), but when you find a subject that you have real passion to talk about, you’ll find the structure and writing style comes naturally. I like to try new things and I enjoy sharing ‘worthwhile’ things with others – sharing information and knowledge should be something we need to do more of – don’t be afraid to ask or to share information; because that person you share it with will be grateful, afterall you wouldn’t have known yourself it wasn’t for that some one who taught or had shown you in the first place.

Working full-time as a Creative Designer I’m always looking out for things that inspire me, I’m a great supporter of original ideas and honest people. Fantastic opportunities to learn new things, reinforcing what I think I already know and meeting lots of interesting, like-minded people – all of this lead me to discovering a new hobby which was in food. It’s not surprising I’d find a passion with food though – my parents ran a Chinese takeaway Pak Hoo House on Westgate in Rotherham for 22 years! It’s still there (go and try some yummy food, I recommend the Peking Sauce and if you love black bean sauce, the Special Wandering Dragon dish is a must!). The takeaway is still owned by family but not my parents. So I’ve always loved my food.

Spending the past 18 months ‘Food Discovering’ in my own personal time, particularly in Sheffield (or wherever my smiley fork will take me) – I’ve found and met a variety of eating venues, food producers, local chefs and farmers. Please note: I do not accept payment for the things written on this blog. All posts are about things I love and want to share with my readers – all my thoughts and opinions are mine (unless stated otherwise).

I have seen people come together supporting one another hoping to strengthen their food community’s network (afterall, to many of these people it’s their livelihood to survive). I’ve wanted to support many of them because from my family’s business background, I know how difficult it can be as an independent trader. So I started writing this blog, but it’s not just through blogging I’ve been able to showcase tasty food businesses – I’m always actively curating new projects and social campaigns which I hope will inspire others to also do something ‘worthwhile’ to support their own city’s independent trader – there is still so much to do and so many good artisans that deserves showcasing.

A Food Journey with REAL people and feelings…
Some people go out seeking to meet movie stars or entertainment celebrities – to me, I like badgering and hanging out with talented chefs. They’re kinda like designers – but without the mac (creatives). I ask them to take me in their lair (kitchen) so that they can teach me how to bake that awesome cake of wonders or we’ll fuse our creative minds into one to cook up tasteful projects that are worth sharing to others (for example: The Sheffield Egg, Missie Cindz Vintage Preserves, Missie’s Pud Inn at The Rutlands and more).

Missie Cindz and the Three Rutty Chefs
Move over Goldilocks – it’s all about Missie Cindz and the three Rutty Chefs. Chef Mike – aka pudding panda (his homemade Brownies are to die for!), Chef Ricko – who could easily give Wonka a run for his chocolate coins (he’s wacky, in a nice way and knows how to dress his food to their nines!), and then there’s thoughtful Chef Eric who will tend to your kitchen and bar needs accompanied with a smile (just look at the photo above). In September will mark our first year of Pud Inns at the Rutland Arms! (how time flies). You can download our full year of pudding menu here for your reference here: Missie’s Year of Puds. I’m looking forward to seeing most of you in September for a slice of celebratory goodness.

Tasty Missie Cindz and Friends
In April this year I searched high and low for some lovely food friends (or guest bloggers) to contribute on the blog: New Columns and Tasty Contributors. My involvement in design projects and organising food events that helps to promote the Missie Cindz food love meant I didn’t have time to blog as much as I would like. I initially looked for 2-3 contributors but ended up finding 5 contributors who are all filled with food passion, from different backgrounds blogging about their food experiences – sharing with readers their food stories. A big thank you for your participation Anne, Gregoire, Ian, Cat and Kevin. You can find out more about them in our Blog Contributors page.

Do have the manners to say thank you
My parents’ bought me up on a plateful of pleases and thank yous so I always try to respond when people get in touch with what I do. You’ve taken the time to show interest in me, my services and products so the very least I can do is reply. It’s even harder nowadays with so much going on; with an exciting new range of beautiful stationery coming out next month (that encouarges us to fall back in love with writing – because there’s nothing better than writing about food with some beautiful stationery) and along with food-themed T-shirts available from Missie’s Takeaway – there’s going to be plenty of delicious things worth sharing (more details about my paper range will be revealed soon).

Keep in Touch
Please do join our mouthwatering mailing list to be kept up to date with all of our tasty discoveries and events, or alternatively follow me on twitter or facebook.
